True 21:9 is 21/9 = 2.333… 2560×1080 and 3440×1440 are the desktop sizes people mean.
YouTube still plays 21:9, but viewers on phones see thicker bars. Confirm the brief before you lock scope.
To crop 16:9 to 21:9, keep width and reduce height: 1920-wide 16:9 (1080 tall) becomes about 823 tall.
